Program notes
"I fell in love with Etta James". At the age of 12, Kaz Hawkins discovered the woman nicknamed “Miss Peaches” through a cassette gifted by her grandmother. Considered by many to be one of the greatest voices in history alongside Aretha Franklin, a pioneer of rock'n'roll and contemporary pop music, Etta James' husky, powerful voice paved the way for future legends of the genre such as Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, Adele, and Amy Winehouse. On stage at La Traverse in Cléon, France, the Northern Irish singer brings this icon of the 1950s back to the limelight with a moving rendition of the American singer's finest songs, from her tribute album entitled Memories of Etta.
