Program notes

Relive the fantastic performance of Trombone Shorty and his band on the stage of the Swiss festival Baloise Session in a joyful evening of virtuosic funk, jazz, and New Orleans music.

Trombonist, trumpeter, and vocalist Troy Andrews is a prodigy from New Orleans. His brother, trumpeter James Andrews, nicknamed him ‘Trombone Shorty’ in reference to the very early start of his career (Trombone Shorty made his first appearance on stage when only 4 years old alongside singer and guitarist Bo Diddley). A prolific musician, he has enjoyed great success since 2010, with four albums blending jazz, rock, pop, funk, hip-hop, and traditional music from Louisiana. Trombone Shorty has also collaborated with Lenny Kravitz, Pharrell Williams, Bruno Mars, the Foo Fighters, and even Ringo Star.
