Program notes

Live from the hallowed stage of La Scala in Milan, get (re)acquainted with one of the pillars of Italian opera: Verdi's Macbeth! Opera superstars Anna Netrebko (Lady Macbeth), Luca Salsi (in the title role), and Ildar Abdrazakov (Banquo) breathe—and sing—new life into Shakespeare's characters in an eye-popping staging by Davide Livermore, which situates the action in the 20th century. Every aspect adds to the icy atmosphere of the tragedy: the sets by Giò Forma given dizzying scale by D-WOK's multisensory video installation, the supreme talents of the soloists, the costumes by Gianluca Falaschi... And as for Verdi's fabulous score, it's a music fan's dream team: Maestro Riccardo Chailly leading the world-renowned orchestra of La Scala.
