Sobre el programa...
To commemorate the 150th anniversary of Gioachino Rossini’s death, directors Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier staged one of his operas, L’Italiana in Algeri, as part of the 2018 Salzburg Festival! The story centers on the Bey of Algiers, Mustafà, who—bored in his marriage—pursues a love affair with a beautiful Italian woman. However, the woman he loves turns out to be enamored with his slave Lindoro…
Amid the vibrant sets by Christian Fenouillat, the dynamic Cecilia Bartoli excels as usual with her magnificent voice, spirited acting, and inimitable stage presence, imbuing Isabella with strength and independence. Celebrated bass Ildar Abdrazakov is particularly comical as Mustafà, while tenor Edgardo Rocha—in the role of Isabella’s lover Lindoro—delivers a beautifully expressive performance. You’ll understand why the enraptured audience demands an encore after the show’s grand finale…
