Relive an incredible musical encounter between two generations of Afro-Cuban music. Piano virtuoso Roberto Fonseca joins forces with singers Omara Portuondo and Mayra Andrade for an exceptional evening performance.
Cuban pianist and composer Roberto Fonseca is a major figure in jazz and Afro-Cuban music today. Born in Havana into a family of musicians, he became known on the international scene as the pianist of the legendary Buena Vista Social Club, as well as a member of singer Ibrahim Ferrer’s band.
Cuban singer and dancer Omara Portuondo is a music legend. She began her career in the 50s with the group Las d’Aida, which met with great success among the Cuban youth and accompanied stars such as Nat King Cole. She recorded her first solo album in 1958 and launched her solo career, leading her to the world’s most prestigious stages. In 1996, she became a member of the Buena Vista Social Club and received a Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
Mayra Andrade is a Cape Verdean singer who became known in the late 2000s. A nomadic artist, her music encapsulates several styles and instigates a dialogue between traditional Cape Verdean and Afro-Cuban music, and Brazilian music, the French chanson, and Afrobeat. She has collaborated with numerous artists: Stomy Bugsy, Neg’ Marrons, Djeli Moussa Diawara, Yael Naim, Benjamin Biolay...
