Program notes
Take a break on the banks of the Seine with this beautiful video from June 2014 as “Romané Chavé”, a program including landmarks of the Gipsy jazz scene, is performed at the Django Reinhardt Festival in Samois sur Seine. As the sun begins to set over this picturesque scene of an outdoor concert just next to the flowing river and lush, green forest in the background, the musicians start to get more and more alive. Gently easing the audience in, the concert starts with a sweetly whispered conversation between guitarist Stochelo Rosenberg, and cybalist Giani Lincan. As more and more band members are introduced to the audience, the music starts to pick up more and more speed, with each one bringing their own flavor of intensity.
The camera will immediately sweep you into place! By panning over the audience, director Giuseppe De Vecchi captures the audience’s appreciation. Close-up shots of the bemused gaze of children or the long-practiced concentration of an older man attests to the universality of this music and to the talent of these wonderful musicians.
